Summer Proof Your Make-up

by Pat Barry
Summer is almost here and so it’s time to figure out if you need to make changes to your make-up routine. If you want to wear makeup in the summer, avoid Make-up Meltdown by following some of the tips below!
Makeup Base: During the hot season we tend to sweat much more than in other seasons, which can instantly spoil our makeup. Foundation can be very difficult in heat, it might melt down or smudge. To avoid any accidents, swap the liquid foundation to a water-proof powder foundation or a mineral foundations. This will give you the coverage, but your skin will still be able to breathe. Apply foundation only to certain spots. Always have blotting paper at hand. It helps remove oil excess. Our GloMineral Blotting Papers come in a handy, purse size packs.

Eyes: Obviously, waterproof mascara!! This helps when you jump in the water but also with added sweat around the eye. Opt for formulas that won’t dry out your lashes. It is very important to let them breathe and keep them hydrated. Waterproof makeup is more stubborn so use eye makeup remover. In terms of eye shadows, you might look on the bright side with sheer, fresh colors. Pastel shades, neutrals, gold and aqua tones are very hot this season. Eye shadow primers such as those from GloMinerals, are without a doubt essential weapons in summer proofing your makeup. Cream eye shadows and mineral makeup is your best choice. Our ‘Blinc’ Mascara and eye products are water resistant do not smudge yet they come off cleanly with warm water.

Lips: Lips are heavily affected by sun so take extra care with proper conditioning and moisturizing. Use foundation on your lips as a ‘primer’ to help with smudging. Lip liners help with the bleeding that lipstick can do with excess sweat or oil on the skin. Choose tones that are close to your natural skin color. Your lips can also look fabulous if you use lip stains. They are long lasting when applied to moisturized lips. We carry lip balms by Dermalogica with an spf of 15 for that added protection.

Tips to Beat Burnout!

The first signs of stress are worry, irritability, insomnia and general fatigue. In more severe cases stress can lead to alcohol and drug abuse, severe depression and perhaps even heart disease. Of course, not all stress is work-related: it can come from one’s personal life as well. But recognizing the early signs of the condition are relatively easy, and following these tips may help:

  • Recognize the warning signs
  • Keep a stress diary
  • Get your priorities straight
  • Share your feelings
  • Take time off
  • Be alone
  • Get support or help
  • Recognize Codependency

Don’t think longer hours are better-they’re not. To work smart is the solution. Learn time management skills and find ways of making your working day more productive in the hours available. If you think the whole office will collapse when you leave it, then you’re not managing yourself/time properly. Manage wisely.-it is a great contributor to stress, resentment and burnout. If you find you are doing everything to please everyone and have the expectation that you will receive ‘something’ in return-you are mistaken.

You must verbalize expectations and ask for what you need. It is appropriate to ask for ‘kudos’ and praise.-a support system, such as a 12 Step Fellowship program, family and friends can be great sounding boards. -spending a little time alone from everyone is a good thing. Go and eat lunch for one, read the paper, do some shopping. A few hours will make all the difference.-this sounds obvious, but it is very easy to continue working through holidays. When you have planned leave, stick to it. If taking prolonged holiday is impossible, then be sure to make the most of your weekends.

Remember to switch your mobile phone off occasionally too!  When you continue to bottle them up you’ll inevitably explode at some point. Let people know how you feel, constructively.-knowing what your core values are and building your schedule accordingly may help. Think about what is important at work and what is not. If you can delegate, do it and learn how to say ‘no’.-If you find you are getting stressed every day it may help to keep a journal. Every time you are stressed, take a note of what happened, the people involved, what you did and what you think you should have done. Focus on what your ‘part’ is in the situation. After a while, you may start to recognize trends in the diary, which pinpoint when you are about to get stressed.- the first physical manifestations of stress include headaches, stomach cramps and muscle tension. This is a warning to deal with the situation before it gets out of control.

Best Tip, Hands Down!
Washing your hands is the best way to prevent spreading germs and keep yourself and others from passing germs or getting sick yourself. Especially the person in the home who prepares food, should wash their hands many times to prevent food poisoning and passing on food born germs associated with raw meats, etc. You should definitely wash your hands after using the restroom but also throughout the day. Wash with anti-bacterial soap and teach your children to wash their hands for a length of time to be able to sing ‘happy birthday’ to make sure they are thoroughly washing.

Deep breathing can clear and focus your mind and as it releases endorphins into the system These are natural painkillers. Deep breathing techniques can help relax muscles and help to relieve general aches and pains. Do this while driving, sitting at work, waiting in line and deal with the everyday stresses of your life just by taking air into the lungs, deep into the lungs, not into just your stomach.

Go Ahead and Have a Good Cry!
Humans are the only animals who shed tears of emotion. Weeping is one of the mechanisms that humans use to rid themselves of toxins. Tears may be involved in removing waste products from the body. Tears shed by crying and those shed by watery eyes due to onions, for example, are very different. Crying can be a form of stress release and be a very natural and healthy cure for what ails you. So if you feel it, go ahead and have yourself a good cry!
